Following the removal of the Chairman of the Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ben Nwoye, by 42 members of his State Executive Committee, it was gathered that the former chairman has resorted to bribing some of the 42 members presently in support of the new chairman, Prince Gilbert Chikwado Chukwunta, in order to recant their support for the new Acting Chairman to say that it was initially done under duress.

Nwoye was said to have allegedly dangled as much as N250,000 for anybody willing to leave the ranks of Prince Nnaji. Some of the members, who he has reportedly made such offers to, revealed that the man is desperate.

A source, who is a high profiled officer of the party, told our correspondent that Nwoye had been calling all of them offering them a sweetened deal of N250,000 cash to denounce Prince Nnaji.

One said: “I was in Church when i received a call from an unknown number. When i picked, i recognized Nwoye’s voice and he then asked me to betray my conscience; something i told him i would not do before going to promise me the sum of N250,000 if i pulled out. At that point, i switched off my phone and wondered at the level of his desperation”.

The source also alleged that the other 42 members of the Committee had also received calls from the former Chairman.

It has also been gathered that the source of the money that he is trying to use to buy over the Committee members is from a particular PDP SouthEast Governor, who it was alleged was in alliance with Ben Nwoye in order to destroy the chances of the APC from putting up a good fight in the general elections come 2023.
The Governor, who is in the alliance with Nwoye, is worried that with the teaming up of the likes of Senator Ken Nnamani, former Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime , Eugene Odo former Speaker and a number of other strong household names in Enugu politics, the PDP’s 24 years hold on Enugu State may become history.

This aforementioned SouthEast Governor was said to have financed the move with 20 million Naira.
