Enugu Ward Congress: APC Leaders Disown Nwoye, Call For Sanction

Following the end of the Ward Congress held in Enugu, leaders of the APC in the state have unanimously condemned the actions of the State Chairman, Chief Ben Nwoye, following his unilateral inauguration of five Ward Executives per Ward.
These leaders did included General Chris Eze, Honourable I.K Ugwuegede, three time senatorial candidate of the party, General JOJ Okoloagu and El Aja, the Enugu State Coordinator for National Agricultural Lands Development Authority, NALDA.
These leaders, who had participated in last Saturday’s Congress, wondered why the Acting Chairman, in the person of Ben Nwoye, would unilaterally inaugurate five Ward Executive members even when the results of the Ward Committee had not been submitted by the Ward Congress Committee, which was mandated by the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, to conduct and supervise the Ward Congresses.
Speaking to journalists, General Chris Eze stated that he was rather disappointed with the action, which was unbecoming of the Acting Chairman. He wondered where the Chairman got the results, which he used to inaugurate the five Ward Executive Members, even when the CECPC was yet to accept the result.
Chris Eze said that no reasonable leader or member of the APC was or would be a party to such a charade.
He also condemned the deployment of derogatory language on a number of leaders, who Eze described as having little or no input into the Ward Congress exercise and wondered why Nwoye, who throughout his tenure as opposition Chairman, had never criticised the ruling PDP administration in the state, would resort to gutter language and left many to wonder whose script he was really acting on.
For JOJ Okoloagu, a three time Senatorial Candidate of the APC as well as foundational member and member Board of Trustees, he stated that he had never in the history of his participation in politics in Enugu witnessed such impunity, which the State Chairman had sought to introduce, not even in the hey days of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“What we saw was unprecedented and should be condemned by all. Ii am indeed wondering why despite the success of the congresses in the state, Ben Nwoye still chose to act a script, which suggests that he intends to please his paymasters, i am at a loss and wonder what the National Chairman would say to such an event.”
EI Aja, on his part, labelled the activities of the State Chairman, particularly the inauguration and the use of unsuitable words for those he deemed as his political opponents as efforts bent on destroying the chances of the APC in 2023.
He wondered why a Nwoye, who was a lawyer, would resort to the use of self help when the party affords him the opportunity of seeking redress via the provision of an Appeal Committee stating that he ought to know better.
For IK Ugwuegede, he claimed that he is yet to fathom what actually transpired but described as commonsense the fact that one in acting capacity could not swear in or inaugurate officers, describing the action as self contradictory and defeatist in its entirety.
Ugwuegede said: “I was told that the Acting Chairman selected five Ward Executive members per Ward and inaugurated them. Who then will now inaugurate the rest? I and other leaders reject such actions and call on the national leadership of the party to call Nwoye to order, since it is only in Enugu State that we have witnessed such an aberration”.
Ugwuegede also condemned the use of unsavoury language describing it as unbecoming for a Party Chairman.
