Evicted Gracia And David Garland Deliver Best Performance On Nigerian Idol S9

Posted on June 13, 2024

The night was tense as IK Osakioduwa, Nigerian Idol host, announced that Gracia and David Garland would be evicted from the show after the duo amassed the least amount of votes amongst the top nine contestants during the live show on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

With the judges expressing their shock and finally questioning how Nigerians vote, following the last set of evictions, the night started with Chioma’s performance of Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary,’ and she delivered! The vocal powerhouse brought the groove to the stage, executed choreography without compromising her vocal delivery, and gave the judges exactly what they needed to ease into a tension-filled night.

Stevie took on the Jackson 5 song ‘Who’s Loving You,’ and it was a journey. From the killer intro to his use of falsetto he brought the theatrics he’s known for to the stage and truly performed like a Divo.

On this episode, Mira Clear found her voice and style as her stage presence, vocal delivery, and audience engagement were some of the many things the judges commended her for as she gave an electrifying performance of Mary J. Blige’s ‘Be Without You.’

Lady Ruth brought delicateness to the stage as she breezed in and out of her notes while performing Mariah Carey’s ‘My All.’ Platinum ticket winner Chima brought suaveness to the stage as he commanded the audience in Stevie Wonder’s ‘Lately.’ His diction runs, and the range he explored with his vocals were effortless in what was tagged one of the best performances of the night.

As much as the night brought us memorable performances, Lammy and Maio struggled to keep up on a night riddled with an excellent show of talent from most of the contestants. Lammy sang Bryan Adams’ ‘Everything I Do’ and Maio performed Michael Jackson’s ‘Heal The World.’

In a not-so-shocking turn of events, David Garland’s delivery of Celine Dion’s ‘I Surrender’ was a befitting goodbye to the performer as he took the audience through a journey with his vocal performance. Gracia absolutely stole the show as she gave the best performance of the night with an incredible stage delivery of Labelle’s ‘Lady Marmalade’.

The excellence, and resolve on the show last night are some of the many reasons why Nigerian Idol has captured the hearts of millions of audiences all over the country.
