FAAN Records Over 4.85million International Passenger Movements In 2025, A Y-on-Y Increase of Over 10 Per Cent

As international travel continues to gain momentum among Nigerian travellers, industry professionals are warning that many of the challenges people encounter begin long before they arrive at the airport.

From incomplete documentation and missed application timelines to misunderstanding visa requirements and relying on outdated information, travel experts say avoidable mistakes remain one of the biggest causes of delays, financial losses and disrupted travel plans.

The warning comes as Nigeria continues to record steady growth in international passenger traffic, with FAAN reporting more than 4.85 million international passenger movements in 2025, a year-on-year increase of just over 10 per cent.

One of the most common mistakes, according to industry observers, is assuming that travel requirements remain unchanged over time. Immigration policies, visa validity periods and entry conditions are frequently reviewed by destination countries, making information from previous trips or advice shared informally on social media potentially outdated.

Travel advisers recommend that prospective travellers confirm the latest requirements through official sources or qualified professionals before paying for flights or accommodation.

Another recurring issue is inadequate preparation. Many travellers underestimate the time required to organise supporting documents, obtain travel insurance, plan finances or understand baggage allowances.

Others fail to consider transit requirements, passport validity or destination-specific health regulations until the final days before departure. These oversights, experts say, often create unnecessary stress and, in some cases, prevent travellers from boarding their flights altogether.

The industry has responded by placing greater emphasis on education alongside traditional travel services. Rather than focusing solely on bookings, many agencies are developing travel guides, consultation services and educational content to help customers make informed decisions.

Travel With BWW is among the companies adopting this approach, encouraging travellers to ask questions and understand the full travel process before making commitments. Analysts say this reflects a wider shift in customer expectations, where trust, transparency and expert guidance are becoming as valuable as competitive pricing.

Industry stakeholders maintain that preparation remains the most effective way to reduce travel-related challenges. Whether travelling for business, education, tourism or relocation, experts advise Nigerians to begin planning early, verify information carefully and seek reliable guidance when needed.

In an increasingly dynamic global travel environment, knowing what to do before departure may ultimately determine how successful the journey becomes.
