Police operatives have arrested a self acclaimed Lagos State University, LASU, lecturer and fake Dr. Olalekan Kalejaye who allegedly duped some students of large sums of money under the false pretence of securing admission for them to study various courses in the school.

However, the promises he had made turned out to be scams as undisclosed number of students were defrauded of various amounts of money going into millions of Naira.

The incident happened at the campus where Kalajaye claimed that he was one of the lecturers and held a PhD as a lecturer.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the suspect who claimed to be a PhD holder worked through various agents, contacted some students who wrote 2017 JAMB examination and obtained money from them.

When the LASU management eventually closed the admission for the session, many of the victims started looking for him to refund their money as he was said to be on the run.
However, he ran out of luck after one of the female victims, Olabanjo Lola sighted him and immediately contacted the police. He was then arrested and detained at the police station.

The total amount of money he was said to have defrauded the victims was not yet known, but sources said it might run into millions of Naira because many victims were involved.

During interrogation, he confessed that he was not a staff of LASU and did not have PhD as he made the victims to believe.

He was subsequently charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for the alleged fraud.

He pleaded not guilty.

Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor did not object to his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 16 April, 2018.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

P.M.EXPRESS learnt that when some of the victims learnt of his arrest and arraignment, they rushed to the court but by then it was already late for them to be joined in the suit. It was gathered that the prosecutor might amend the charges in the next sitting if the victims show up at the court.
