Female POS Operator Sent To Prison For Siphoning Money

A 26-year old lady, Mercy Eberechi Orji, who was employed as a POS operator, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly manipulating the machine and siphoning the sum of N620,000, which was later discovered by the owner.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that she has been arrested and charged for stealing over her alleged conduct.
The incident happened at Ikotun area of Lagos, where she was employed as an operator by the owner, Oyedele Solomon.
According to the Police, the suspect presented herself as a professional POS operator, was employed and given the machine loaded with huge sum of money.
However, after she was employed, she started siphoning money from the machine to the tune of said amount before the owner, Solomon, later realized and asked her to know what happened but she was unable to give satisfactory answers.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. She was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
Having been found culpable for tempering with the money, she was consequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 25th March, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
