FG Should Arrest The Disturbing Social Vices In Niger Delta Now, ACWCN Warn

Posted on May 25, 2022

The disturbing and devastating security reports in Niger Delta ports have forced the Association of Costal Waterways Communities of Nigeria (ACWCN) to rise strongly against it, maintaining that unless the federal government acts fast to arrest the deadly situation, the dangerous trend may be a child’s play soonest.

This sharp reaction was contained in a statement issued and signed by ACWCN president, Comrade Bawo Ighomi, who insisted that the current dangerous trend is simply a fall out of youth’s unemployment which has since turned them to something else.

He wondered why the FG should ignore the establishment of Cottage industry in the fishing zones, which is an important area of solving the youth’s unemployment challenges.

“The roots cause of this rubbish is from the disturbing activities of piracy, kidnapping and oil theft which may have been thrown up as a result of lack of employment generating excises in Niger Delta states like Akwa-Ibom, Rivers, Delta and Cross River States. We as Coastal and Waterways Communities who are hosts to these ports are ready to set up security network to partner with government security services to protect these vessels and the personnel of Niger Delta area,” he noted.
