Filmmaker Pascal Atuma Slams Old Politicians, Backs Gov. Otti For Re-election

Posted on February 22, 2026

Renowned filmmaker and FIFA-licensed football agent, Pascal Atuma, has stirred the political waters of Abia State, launching a scathing critique against a “gang-up” of former leaders while throwing his weight behind the incumbent Governor, Alex Otti.

In a statement released to celebrate his birthday, Atuma —a prominent voice in capacity development for youth— linked the current political tension in the state to what he described as a desperate attempt by “the old guard” to regain power after decades of failed stewardship.

Atuma’s comments come on the heels of recent high-profile meetings between former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu.

Political observers have labeled this alliance a strategic move to unseat Otti in the 2027 elections.

The filmmaker didn’t mince words, condemning past executives who, according to him, “had nothing to show for their time at the helm of affairs.”

“I have no respect for people who treat opportunities as a chance to enrich themselves rather than create a legacy,” Atuma stated. “We are seeing a growing gang-up of old politicians who are threatened by progress. They left Abia in ruins, yet they want to return.”

The timing of Atuma’s intervention is significant.

Just weeks ago, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu made headlines by dismissing Governor Otti’s infrastructure projects as mere “repainting of roads” and vowing that the APC would reclaim the state in 2027.

Atuma, reflecting on his own career as a filmmaker and sports entrepreneur, countered this narrative, arguing that Otti has demonstrated “good stewardship” through projects that finally benefit the humanity and citizens of Abia.

While praising Otti’s empathetic leadership style, Atuma concluded with a stern admonition for the Governor to remain vigilant.

He urged the administration to maintain its focus on youth development and infrastructure. Quoting the scripture, Atuma reminded Otti that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”

He also warned the Governor not to “rest on his oars,” as the opposition from the previous administrations intensifies.

The filmmaker’s stance marks a significant moment in the unfolding 2027 battle, suggesting that Abia’s “creative class” and business community may be firmly lining up behind the Labour Party administration against the combined force of the state’s former power brokers.
