Fives, Para Table Tennis, Squash Deliver Gold Medals For Team Lagos

Despite being competing in a national school sports tournament characterized by the fielding of overaged athletes by some ‘unrepentant’ win at all costs states, youthful Team Lagos athletes are raising their heads high to deliver gold medals for the state.
On Day 4 of the 6th U-15 National Youth Games taking place in Ilorin, Kwara State, north-central Nigeria, Team Lagos hauled in three more gold medals from Fives, Para Table Tennis and Squash.

Tijani Rasaq gave Lagos its gold medal in Para Table Tennis in the boys’ singles event, while the state won another gold medal in the Fives singles event at the expense of Delta State in the final decided early on Sunday. The gold came from Isaac Blessing. Dominion Utukpe won the gold medal in Squash boys singles, while Bidemi Olatunji clinched a silver medal in the female squash singles.

More medals came in for Team Lagos on Day 4 with the duo of Aishat Rabiu and Mathew Kuti winning a silver medal in the table tennis mixed doubles. Team Lagos 3-1 to Team Delta to settle for a silver medal in the female volleyball event. Balogun Yetunde won a bronze medal in the Para Table Tennis female singles event. A bronze medal was also won in the tennis event, also a bronze medal was won in the doubles event of Fives
Meanwhile, Lagos State boxer, Opaleye Kehinde fighting in the 46kg category won his bout via a knockout in round 2 against Lucky Edum of Rivers State.

As of the time of filing this report, more events are ongoing with Team Lagos athletes already in the medal zone in their respective sports.
