The court has sentenced four men to five years imprisonment each without option of fine for attempting to strangle a man at the bus stop in Lagos State.

The convicts are Hammed Sanni, 35, Ifeanyi Sunday, 32, Owolabi Kolawole,29 and Muyideen Alimi,21.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that while they will be serving their jail terms, they will also wait for the outcome of advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP over another charge of robbing the same victim with violence.

The convicts were charged before Isolo Magistrates court for attacking the victim, Adegunwa Taiwo, robbing him and attempting to strangle him before he was rescued.

The incident happened at Five Star Bus Stop along Oshodi-Mile 2 expressway in Lagos.

They were arrested by the police at Aswani Division and charged before the court for conspiracy, assault, stealing and use of violence on the victim.

They all pleaded guilty.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that after they pleaded guilty, the prosecutor, Mr Oje Uagbale presented the facts before the court.

The prosecutor told the court that the victim was driving his SUV, it developed fault at the bus stop where the victim parked and came out from the vehicle to check what was wrong.

Uagbale said it was while the victim bent down to check under his vehicle that the convicts came out from where they hid and attacked the victim and robbed him of N52,000 and escaped.

The prosecutor asked the court to sentence them accordingly since they have pleaded guilty to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit such offence.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr O.A. Ogbe found them guilty as charged and sentence them accordingly.

On the matter of robbing with violence, the court ordered the prosecutor to send their file to DPP for advice and adjourned the matter till 29 July 2017.

However, the convicts will remain in prison custody for over two years because the court ruled that the sentence will run concurrently.
