FSARS Team Leader, Olaniyi Bags Gallantry Award

The Team Leader in charge of the STRIKE UNIT ONE at the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad, FSARS at Adeniji Adele Road,Lagos Island, DSP Olaniyi Festus has been honoured with the Gallantry Award In Crime Bursting Nationwide by the management of Alimosho Times, a community newspaper based in Alimosho area of Lagos.

Festus was honoured at an elaborate event which took place on 15 December at the Santos Hall of Ben Auto Place, Akowonjo, Lagos during the newspaper’s celebration of the 6th year anniversary of the creation of Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu and the 5th Security and Safety 2017 Award ceremony.

Honoured alongside Festus were other senior officers for their various achievement in the provision of security to ensure Lagosians and Nigerians continue to sleep with their two eyes closed everyday.

The other officers are ACP Austine Akika, Area Commander in charge of Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos; Air Commodore Musbau Olatunji who represented the Commander, Air Force Base, Ikeja, Lagos; Major A.C Uba, who represented the Commander in charge of 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ikeja, Lagos and DSP Charles Odii, Officer in charge of Legal Section at the FSARS,Lagos.

Speaking at the event on the need for the award, Mr. Roy Jibroma, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of the Alimosho Times, said the yearly award is not for sale to the highest bidders but strictly bestowed on individuals or groups who have excel in their fields after a meticulous discreet investigation of the recipients.
He added that Alimosho Times decided to honour DSP Olaniyi Festus for his exemplary gallantry and courage in crime bursting Nationwide.

“The spate of goods trucks and petrol tankers hijacking and diversion along the Lagos-Ibadan-Abuja highway have reduced due to the tireless efforts of DSP Olaniyi Festus and his team. We thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris and the ACP in charge of FSARS Lagos, Ibrahim Kaoje for supporting DSP Olaniyi Festus and his team to succeed in their efforts to provide security for Nigerians,”Jibroma said.

In his speech at the event, ACP Akika appealed to members of the public to continue to assist the Police with useful information about criminal activities to enable the Police serve them better.

He noted that the Police can not do it alone since they are not spirits, but human beings like any other persons.

The event which attracted dignitaries from far and near also featured lectures on Community Security and Safety Partnership between Security agencies and members of the public.
