Posted on November 5, 2024
Preparations are in top gear as Nigerian Fuji icon, Abass Akande Obesere, widely known as Omo Rapala, prepares to ring in his 60th birthday in January 2025 with an unforgettable week of festivities.
Known for his electrifying stage presence and catchy slang, Obesere has planned a milestone celebration packed with events, star appearances, and heartfelt gestures honouring his team and community.
Today, Tuesday, 5th November, 2024, Obesere met with his dedicated planning committee at his Ibadan home to review the plans.
The committee includes Olusola Adebayo, National Publicist and Abule Egba Coordinator; Benedict Olugbenga, National President; Olumide Orogunle, Alimosho Coordinator; Waheed Salaudeen, Board of Trustees (BOT) member; Idowu Amoo, National Coordinator; Akanni Olamother; and Olusola Jide Ojo, Sports Consultant.
Together, they unveiled the final details of the celebration, and Obesere responded warmly, saying, “I’m happy with everything that we have here, and I will be ready to support you all because you are celebrating me to make sure that everything is a success”.
The lineup includes a lively novelty football match with Ex-Super Eagles players, a series of concerts, and the launch of five luxurious mansions—two in Lekki, Lagos, and three in Ibadan, Oyo State.
These homes are part of Obesere’s ambitious “Project Give Back” initiative, designed to honour his roots and uplift the community that has supported his rise in the music world.
In an especially generous gesture, Obesere plans to gift each of his band members—a group of over 100—with a plot of land. This act of gratitude underscores the close bonds he has formed over years of music-making as he celebrates their loyalty and dedication.
With his committee by his side, Obesere’s 60th birthday promises to be a vibrant, meaningful affair, blending entertainment, community spirit, and gratitude. Fans and friends are counting down to a week that will undoubtedly reflect the life, energy, and cultural impact of one of Nigeria’s most cherished Fuji artiste.
