Gafaar Reveals Lagos’ Plan To Feature Only Student Athletes At Youth Games In Ilorn

The Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, has expressed readiness of the Commission in the selection process of students athletes across the six education districts in the State for this year’s National Youth Games
The DG said that the Youth Games which is scheduled to hold in ilorin, Kwara State, from 10th-20th October, 2021, will feature only pupils from public and private schools.
Speaking at a Zoom Meeting with association chairmen, Gafaar said that the associations will be involved in the process, adding that out of school students and those above the age of 15 will not be eligible to compete in the events.
“We are all going to do it together from bottom up. Every participant must be in school with the point of reference from the Ministry of Education to the Sports Commission and associations”, said Gafaar.
The LSSC boss urged association chairmen to look critically into the development programmes, adding that competitions that will be beneficial to the athletes and the state should be their top priority.
He also added that the Chairmen should intensify their efforts in inviting more Private people to invest in sports programmes and development.
The DG further noted that the Lagos State Government, led by Mr.Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the building of eight mini stadia across the state including the renovation of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, stating further that, with this development, Lagos is ready to host Africa and the world.
“Community Games which will feature 18 Sports across the 20 LGA’s and 37 LCDA’s will commence in September, 2021”, Oluwatoyin revealed
