Ubulenu Village, Uke in Idemili North Local Government area of Anambra State, was agog with activities in the last couple of days as the remains of Mr. Godfrey Izundu Ezeonyia were finally laid to rest in his country home.
Mr. Godfrey Izundu Ezeonyia, popularly known as Egonese, passed on at the age of 79 years on 22nd May, 2022.
Activities lined up for the burial ceremony peaked on Thursday 11th August, 2022, with the Mass and Christian Wake at his compound, Ubulenu Village, Uke. On Friday, 12th August, his body was moved in a motorcade to St. Dominic Catholic Church, Uke, for a Requiem Mass after a brief lying in state.
The Requiem Mass, which witnessed a huge crowd of sympathisers, family members, in-laws, associates and friends of the deceased, also had a good number of Catholic Priests and the clergy in attendance especially members of the AHOBA C-Set, who are classmates of his son, Mr. Emeka Sebastian Ezeonyia.
After the Requiem Mass, the motorcade moved from St. Dominic Catholic Church to his compound at Ubulenu Village, Uke, where he was interred. Condolence visits by cousins, in-laws, friends and well-wishers followed immediately after with entertainment of guests.
In a chat with P.M.EXPRESS, the son of the deceased, Mr. Emeka Sebastian Ezeonyia, the CEO of Sebs Integrated Services Limited, the producers of Everfresh soap, spoke in glowing terms about his father. He said he had wished that his dad stayed much longer than he did.
“I’m grateful to the Almighty God for the life my father lived. He taught us the value of hard work and he will be sorely missed. I’m indebted to him for the man I’ve become and I pray for the peaceful repose of his soul. I would’ve loved him to be around much longer but we can’t question God who called him home.”
“I’m equally proud of my AHOBA C-Set family. I sincerely appreciate the Reverend Fathers and others, who travelled from far and near to honour us with their presence. Only the good Lord can reward them appropriately” Mr. Emeka Ezeonyia said.
