Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, in his determination to provide basic amenities and critical infrastructure that will transform the state into a one-stop destination of business and leisure, has commissioned three more network of roads within the Uyo metropolis.

The roads include the 6.1km Atan Offot Road, 1.3km Ntiedo Udosen Street, and the 2.1km Believers Assembly Road, all in Uyo Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking at Atan Offot Road, Gov Emmanuel expressed satisfaction on the quality of the road with side drains, saying that it will stand the test of time, and assured of more functional infrastructure to all parts of the state to bolster industrial development as well as attract investors and improve the standard of living of the people.

Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, while explaining the importance of the road, stated that the road was designed  to open up Atan Offot community and allow security agencies to access the locality due to the challenges of criminal activities taking place around Abak Road and its environs.

He noted that the road had been in a deplorable state for a couple of years becoming impassable to the point that even a tractor or bicycle could not access the community, adding that the measurement was done by leg because no vehicle could enter into the area, but the story has changed as the road links Aka Nnung Udoe road axis, traversing Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard, Ring Road 2 and the State Secretariat with underground drainage

While commissioning the road, former Governor of Benue State, Mr Gabriel Suswam, commended the developmental strides of the Governor to turn the state to a model city and living up to the expectation of the mandate given him by his people, explaining that infrastructure is very important to the development of a society and a community.

In their goodwill messages, Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Agency (UCCDA), Prince Enobong Uwah, and a former chairman of Uyo LGA, Chief Aniefiok Uwah, expressed appreciation to the Governor for rescuing them from the deteriorating condition of the road and saving people of the community the stress of using alternative routes to link urban areas.

At Ntiedo Udosen Road, the Works Commissioner explained that they encountered underground drains on the 1.3km long and 7.2m wide road which they had to dig deep as much as 2.3-2.5m depth to be able to contain the water because of the underground work that was  done.

He stated that the Governor was not only building roads but doing connectivity and networking that allows people to move around the city without using the old roads, as the road links Oron Road and Udo Udoma Avenue, as well as boost the economic activities of the community.

Member representing Uyo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Monday Eyo, eulogised the Governor for fulfilling his campaign promises by putting smiles on the faces of the people of the community, adding that it was the first time that Uyo have felt the impact of government. “This is the first time that almost 48 roads have been constructed in Uyo at a go, may God bless you.”

Moving to another commissioning point, the Commissioner for Works explained that the 2.1km Believers Assembly Avenue traverses about four roads including the 225 metres dualized road with street lights around the Dakkada Secretariat linking Oron Road, and another which links up Shelter Afrique.
