The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the Affordable Public Housing Scheme in Idale, Badagry, as part of efforts to reduce the housing deficit challenge in Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu said that the Estate, which is a joint venture with Echostone Development, consists of 252 two-bedroom terrace bungalows in an eco-friendly environment, noting that the collaboration with investors in housing development has yielded fruitful results by adding to the existing stock of homes.

The Governor, therefore, invited genuine investors to come forward for partnership to meet the increasing housing needs, saying “the State Government will continue to provide a conducive environment for investment in the housing sector.”

Earlier the Honourable Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, in his welcome address disclosed that joint ventures with the private sector have boosted the number of new homes in the State within the past eighteen months.

“These include Courtland Villas Igbokushu (120 units) and Lekki Apartments in Lekki Phase 1 (124 units) with more being expected from schemes at Lagoshoms Lekki Phase 2 (84 units) and Lagoshoms Iponri (132 units)”, Akinder-Fatai stated.

He described the commissioning of the Affordable Public Housing Scheme in Idale as a historic event because it is the first green and eco-friendly estate constructed by Lagos State.

Pointing out that the Estate comes with the convenience of low-cost maintenance in terms of water usage and energy efficiency, the Commissioner pointed out that the project also provides infrastructure such as streetlights, water treatment and central sewage treatment plants, perimeter fence and a good road network.

He applauded the development partner, Echostone Limited, for providing quality homes in a sustainable environment for the people of Lagos State, revealing that the State has finalised an agreement with Echostone Development and Family Home Funds for the construction of a Workers Village in Imota.

According to him, the proposed scheme will be backed by a convenient mortgage package that will be accessible to workers from both the public and private sectors.

Akinderu-Fatai also pointed out that another State Workers Village Scheme comprising of 608 homes will soon be constructed through Direct Budgetary allocation at Ishefun in Ayobo Ipaja LCDA.
