Governor Ambode Approves Staging Of 5 Sports Championships

In a bid to increase activities in Lagos sporting arena, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the staging of five School championships to be organised between now and end of the year. 

The organisation of these tournaments is part of the administration of Governor Ambode to develop Sports at the Grass roots especially in the Schools where these budding athletes abound.

This was revealed by Mr. Deji Tinubu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports,to who stated that  Ambode is so passionate about giving young athletes the  chance to exhibit their God-given talents,  as it is when they are discovered and groomed at their tender ages that they would become stars of  tomorrow.

“His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has graciously approved the staging of five School Sports Championships. I can tell you that the first in the series will come up in the next two weeks.

“We will be having Championships in Swimming, Table Tennis, Cricket, Scrabble and a Gymnastics initiative Programme designed to open up the Sporting Facilities in Lagos to the public.

“We want to bring sports development to the schools as it is within this school environment that genuine and proper grassroots sports development can take its roots, ” Tinubu said.

Apart from these schools tournaments holding, the former board member of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, disclosed that a Squash competition was just being held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, while Teslim Stadium will also play host to the Taekwondo International Classics this November. This is a competition where fighters from Nigeria and abroad will storm Lagos in their numbers to showcase their talents.
