Once upon a time, I thought I had found a charismatic and promising governor to take after Comrade Adams Oshiomhole – I was introduced to Mr. Godwin Obaseki in his private house at the GRA. He spoke well to convince me and I fell for the soft-speaking gentleman but not so gentle. He had risen to power with lofty promises of transforming the state into a modern utopia, a place where prosperity and progress would reign supreme. The people of Edo State were hopeful and believed that their governor would lead them to a brighter future.

Governor Obaseki started his tenure with grand visions of infrastructure development, improved education, and healthcare services. He pledged to fix the dilapidated roads that had long plagued the state, promising to uplift the living standards of the people – this time around, we rode in the same car with Hon. Razaq Bello Osagie for a private visit somewhere in the city.

However, as time pass, the people of Edo State began to notice a disturbing pattern. The governor’s promises remained unfulfilled, and the roads he had promised to fix were still in shambles. Social media buzzed with pictures and videos of the governor’s predicament, and the public’s sentiment was clear – their leader’s inability to address the roads’ dire condition had come back to haunt him.
