Governor Obaseki In The Same Mud He Created

JOHN MAYAKI

Once upon a time, I thought I had found a charismatic and promising governor to take after Comrade Adams Oshiomhole – I was introduced to Mr. Godwin Obaseki in his private house at the GRA. He spoke well to convince me and I fell for the soft-speaking gentleman but not so gentle. He had risen to power with lofty promises of transforming the state into a modern utopia, a place where prosperity and progress would reign supreme. The people of Edo State were hopeful and believed that their governor would lead them to a brighter future.

Governor Obaseki started his tenure with grand visions of infrastructure development, improved education, and healthcare services. He pledged to fix the dilapidated roads that had long plagued the state, promising to uplift the living standards of the people – this time around, we rode in the same car with Hon. Razaq Bello Osagie for a private visit somewhere in the city.

However, as time pass, the people of Edo State began to notice a disturbing pattern. The governor’s promises remained unfulfilled, and the roads he had promised to fix were still in shambles. Frustration and disappointment began to grow among the populace, but Governor Obaseki seemed unperturbed – he found excuses everywhere and sometimes, he manufactured some.

One fateful day, the governor stood before a crowd of people, and with a confident smile, he reassured them that better days were coming. He claimed to be working tirelessly behind the scenes and blamed external factors for the delays in implementing his projects. But his words fell on deaf ears, for the people had heard these excuses far too many times.

Before now, the governor had launched an ambitious road repair campaign, working day and night to restore the state’s crumbling infrastructure. He reached out to experts and professionals to ensure that the projects were executed efficiently and effectively – but, they were meant for the television and publicity stunts.

As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, the state’s roads deteriorated further. The people endured countless hardships, navigating pothole-ridden streets, and witnessing accidents caused by the poor condition of the roads.

One rainy afternoon, just yesterday here, the governor’s convoy was en route to an event outside the city. Unbeknownst to him, the chosen route was filled with muddy puddles and treacherous terrain – unstoppable flood on Benin Sapele road. As his convoy progressed, it soon found itself stuck in the very mud and mire that he had allowed to fester. Don’t forget, he had collected a whooping sum of N18 Billion refund for federal roads his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has expended on federal roads in the state.

The people of Edo State could not believe the irony of the situation. Here was their governor, caught in the same mud he had created, unable to move forward. Social media buzzed with pictures and videos of the governor’s predicament, and the public’s sentiment was clear – their leader’s inability to address the roads’ dire condition had come back to haunt him.

As the news of Governor Obaseki’s plight spread like wildfire, anger and frustration erupted among the people. They took to social media platforms, demanding accountability and urging the governor to take immediate action to fix the roads.

In the wake of the public outcry, Governor Obaseki could no longer hide from the truth. His followers finally acknowledged that the administration of their leader has failed in addressing the infrastructure issues that plagued the state. They have been humbled – they now admit that his promises had been hollow.

The incident of Governor Obaseki stuck in the mud should be a turning point in his administration. Am not sure he has learnt the value of keeping his word, the importance of genuine leadership, and the impact of his decisions on the lives of the people he serves.

From today onward, Governor Obaseki is expected to be committed to his mission of uplifting Edo State and its people. He should no longer allow excuses or external factors to hinder progress. Instead, he should focus on implementing sustainable policies and working hand in hand with the people to build a brighter future for the state.

The story of “Governor Obaseki in The Same Mud He Created” serves as a powerful reminder that true leadership demands responsibility and action. It highlights the importance of delivering on promises and understanding the profound impact that governance has on the lives of the governed. It is a tale of redemption and transformation, demonstrating that even in the darkest of times, leaders have the power to change and make a positive difference in the lives of their constituents.
