Grassroots Sports: Lagos Set To Hold Community Shield

In order to discover budding football talents, encourage education and engender peaceful cohabitation at the grassroots, Lagos is set to hold a tournament tagged “Community Shield”.

Lagos Community Shield is an annual grassroots event, which focuses on education and sports.Youths of Under 15 are selected from all over 950 Communities Development Areas (CDA’s) , under 57 CDCs /LGs and LCDAs in Lagos State.

The strategy is to build teams from the communities and monitor them to stardom while studying their different courses. They will also intensify their football career through engagements with Iocal and international institutions.


Speaking on the initiative, one of the organisers, Mr. Saidi Olanrewaju, said, “We are in partnership with Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs and the tournament is endorsed by Lagos State Football Association (LSFA )”.


“We are sure this almost one month tournament will aid the Government in Youth development while equally and ultimately divert the minds of the youths away from juvenile crime.” 


“Over 5,000 spectators will witness the final matches at the ultra modern Agege Stadium on  Sunday 17th October, 2021.
