Group Says It’s Time Youths Take Over Leadership Positions, As APC Prepares For Congress

Posted on July 3, 2021

APC National Youth Assembly, a registered and recognized political group by National Headquarters of the party, has declared that the group is working hard to mobilize progressive individuals and personalities to ensure that 90 percent of expected leaders are youths in the upcoming party congresses in wards, local governments and state executives across the country.

Speaking with journalist in Abuja on Friday, Comrade Yahaya Majeed, the National President of the group and former State Executive member of Osun APC, described as unfortunate and regrettable the situation where the youths were pushed aside and abandoned after they have worked for the success of the party during elections, adding that this attitude would no longer be acceptable to loyal members of the party across the country and beyond.

‘We have identified the constraint facing youth development in the party and within the God-given provisions and supports from well-meaning members of the party, we are going to bring fundamental change to perceive monkey dey work, baboon dey chop way of life in APC, so that all members, particularly the youths and women, who are foot-soldiers during elections are the decision makers for the party at various levels in the coming congresses,” said Comrade Yahaya, a trained accountant.

Reminded of bitterness and acrimonies that trailed the recent appointment of Local Government Caretakers in his state, Osun, the renowned activist described the action of the government as unfortunate.

He said it is normal to expect complaints in this kind of process when serious consideration was not giving to those who have worked hard to sustain the party for many years, and never benefited from the party for a day.

Comrade Yahaya said:  “My fear is that such action is dangerous as we will be having another election in the next one year in Osun State. This and other abnormalities are giving the leadership of APC National Youth Assembly serious concerns and we are ready to correct it now. This can only be corrected if APC recognizes the hard work of people within the party and who are the agile human resources the party depends on other than our teeming youths. I want to appeal to our youths that they don’t need to abandon the house they labour very hard to build, they only need to begin to mobilize themselves to ensure that they are positioned very well to shape their destinies in the party.”
