When the family of late 81-year old Augustina Ayodele engaged a 20-year old, Moji Ajobi, as house maid in Lagos State to take care of their aged mother, they never envisaged that they had actually brought the person that bring sorrow to the family by killing their aged mother.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that after the suspect, Moji Ajobi, was engaged, she started planning how to steal from the old woman and escape. It supposedly paid off on 1st July, 2022, when Moji had the opportunity, stabbed her to death and escaped with some property belonging to the victim.
The incident happened at Niyi Ogunleye Street, Ojota area of Lagos, where the late Augustina Ayodele lived before she was brutally murdered.
The suspect was alleged to have used a sharp object to stab the deceased and escaped to an unknown place and she bled to death. Before the family realised what happened, she was already dead in the pool of her blood. Her corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy report while the alleged murder of the old woman was reported to the Police Homicide Department of the SCID, Yaba.
The Police having received the report, moved into action and arrested the suspect, Moji, who was said to have committed the dastardly act.
During interrogation, she reportedly admitted to have caused the death of the deceased old woman and the Police found her culpable. She was subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrates Court for murder.
The Court did not take her plea when she was arraigned after the prosecutor, Supol Rita Momah, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adeola Olatunbosun, ordered her remand in correctional centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
