A housewife, Rukayya Abubakar, will  spend the rest of her life in prison custody for killing her step-son by throwing him inside a water well, which led to her death in Kano State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Kano High Court presided over by Justice Halima Sulaiman, which convicted and sentenced her accordingly for murder under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The convict was arrested and charged before the Court for the dastardly act and remanded in custody over the dastardly conduct during the trial till the day the Court passed the judgement.
The prosecution counsel, Barrister Rabia Sa’ad, informed the Court that in 2021, Rayya threw her stepson into a well, an action that led to his death and the offence committed contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code of the State which attracts maximum punishment of life imprisonment.
The motive behind her action was not disclosed by the prosecution witnesses and narrated what happened before the Court, which eventually nailed the convict.
During the trial, the prosecution counsel presented four witnesses before the Court, which the Court ruled that they proved the matter beyond reasonable doubt and found the defendant guilty as charged.
The defense counsel, Barrister Rilwan Muhammad, pleaded with the Court to temper justice with mercy because the convict is a mother with many children to cater for.
However,  the Court ordered that the convict will spend the rest of her life in prison by giving her maximum sentence for the offence she committed.
