A housewife, Wasilat Saka, has filed a suit before Grade 1 Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, seeking for the dissolution her one-year old marriage to husband, Tajudeen Jimoh, over negligence of his religious obligations by not praying according to Islamic injunction.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the embattled woman, Saka, who is a civil servant, told the Court that she was no longer interested in the marriage because of conflict in beliefs between her and the man she got married to last year.
An embittered Saka stated that they got married under Islamic Law on 30th July, 2022, but Jimoh, who claimed to be a Muslim, soon abandoned her for months while refusing to perform all Islamic rites.
She told the Court that the marriage has not worked for both of them because she was not happy and wanted to quit the marriage in order to have peace of mind.
“The marriage is yet to produce any children and I don’t wish to continue being his wife.
My husband does not observe five daily prayers and does not observe Ramadan fast either. We always quarrel and fight; for these reasons. I beg the Court to grant my request for a divorce,” Saka said.
The husband, Jimoh, was absent during the hearing to defend himself. However, the Court’s bailiff, Dangana Bawa, tendered a proof that he was served the hearing notice.
The Presiding Judge, Ibrahim Rufai, further adjourned the matter till 13th June, 2023, for further hearing to enable the husband to appear before the Court to defend himself over the allegations made by his wife.
