Housewife Lands In Prison For Flogging Domestic Staff Over Secret Romance

A 42-year old housewife, Mrs. Bukola Orekoya, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly flogging her 20-year old domestic staff, Faith Udoh, over suspicion that she keeps late on errands as a result of having secret romance.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Mrs. Orekoya has been arrested for the alleged assault.
The incident happened on 23rd October, 2022, at Hakeem Habeeb Close, Off Randle Avenue, Surulere area of Lagos, where Mrs. Orekoya resides.
Trouble was said to have started after Mrs. Orekoya sent Faith n an errand and she came back late. It led to the suspicion that she was keeping bad company, which may have introduced her into secret affairs with men.
She then picked up a cane, flogged her mercilessly and injured her in the process, which prompted Faith to report to the Police for prosecution.
Mrs. Orekoya was arrested, interrogated, and having been found culpable, she was subsequently charged before the Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court on two counts of assault and endangerment of the victim’s life, which attracts several years of imprisonment if she is tried and found guilty.
She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned in Court.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Francisca Job, told the Court that the defendant assaulted Faith Udoh by flogging her mercilessly, accused her of keeping bad company and to have come home late on the day when she was sent on an errand.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of Sections 245 and 248 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Presiding Magistrate, A.O. Tella, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum, one of whom must be a blood relation with evidence of tax payment to the State Government for the last three years.
The matter was adjourned till 7th November, 2022, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
