How Coca-Cola Is Leading The Charge For Women Empowerment In Nigeria

Posted on March 5, 2020

You can always count on Coca-Cola to make a difference!

Coca-Cola has always had a penchant for refreshing communities in a number of ways, and this continued with the launch of the SHAPE 2020 programme, a women empowerment program spearheaded by the Whitefield foundation, sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and endorsed by Lagos state Minisry of wealth creation.

The programme launched at The Capstone Resource Center, where the selected 600 women were poised to be economically empowered, thanks to a grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation.

Through the SHAPE 2020 programme, these 600 women will become entrepreneurs as they will be equipped with technical skills training for high-demand industries such as catering, interior design, and more!

Gracing the launch of the program were popular Nigerian entertainers as well as well-known women leaders in their various industries.

Among these inspiring attendees were; Nigerian Actress, Abiola Williams, Voice Coach, Ige Kachi, Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, and Honorable Justice of Lagos High Court, Justice Adenike Josephine Coker.

The event also featured a dance and spoken words performance by an all female dance crew from Party People Nigeria Limited.

Miss Eunice Eric, a teenage mum who is a beneficiary of the Whitefield Foundation also shared her experience with the foundation, detailing how it saw her through secondary school and university.

The Whitefield Foundation has laid an incredible groundwork in the present and the past with numerous empowerment initiatives, including the training of over 5,000 secondary school leavers and graduates in different skill-acquisition programs.

Coca-Cola prioritises the autonomy of women and their role in building economies.

As such, the 5by20 programme was initiated in 2010 with the aim of empowering 5 million women economically.

So far, over 400,000 women have been empowered in Nigeria through the 5by20 initiative.

Coca-Cola’s sponsorship of the SHAPE 2020 programme takes them one step further to achieving that goal within the deadline year.
