A 20-year-old housewife, Amina Hassan, has landed in trouble for allegedly setting her husband’s house on fire after he failed to grant her divorce as they had earlier agreed before they got married in Adamawa State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened five weeks after they got married in Shuware community, Mubi North Local Government area of Adamawa State.
Her action had landed her in trouble as she has been arrested and detained by  the Police for arson.
The suspect, Amina, reportedly got married to her husband, Muhammed Auwal, about five weeks ago and she claimed that there was a pre-wedding arrangement with the man for him to divorce her shortly after their marriage ceremony.
However, the husband was said to have reneged on the agreement which led to a fight and in the process, Amina reportedly set his house ablaze.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed her arrest and detention in custody undergoing interrogation over her alleged conduct.
The image maker stated that the woman informed the Police that her husband, Auwal, started assaulting her when she insisted on getting the divorce. So, out of anger, she set the house on fire.
“We made an arrangement that he would divorce me after the marriage. I met him and pleaded with him to divorce me, but he remained adamant.”
“He descended on me and started beating me instead of divorcing me, as a result of which I lost my temper and set the house ablaze,” Amina told Police investigators.
It was also gathered that few days before the wedding, Amina had informed her parents that she was no longer interested in the marriage. However, they were said to have insisted on the wedding plans and told her there was no turning back as they had already distributed invitation cards.
The Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and the suspect may be charged before the Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
