How Lovy Longomba Morphed From Secular Artist To Gospel Minister
Prophet Lovy L. Elias better known as Lovy Longomba jnr is the founder and Senior Pastor of the Revelation Church of Jesus Christ (RCJC) based in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Born Lovy Longomba in Nairobi, Kenya on November 25th 1985 to Lovy Longomba Snr and Zaina Longomba from a long line of East African/Congolese premier musicians.
His late grandfather Vicky Longomba was one of the founding members of Tout puissant OK Jazz and his father Lovy Longomba Snr was a member of Orchestra Super Mazembe. His father’s brother, Awilo Longomba is also a well known Soukous musician.
It was no surprise that immediately after High School, Lovy Jnr followed his father, Uncle and grandfather for a career in music.
He co-founded the soukous- afro-fusion group ‘The Longombas’ with Christian his elder.
The group enjoyed success on the Kenyan and East African charts winning several music awards, including Kora Awards Africa – Best East African Group 2005, Kisima Music Awards – Best Group from Kenya, Boomba Group & Best Song from Kenya (“Vuta Pumz”) & Social Responsibility 2006 and Tanzania Music Awards – Best East African Album (Chukua) 2006.
After touring and performing at around concerts and award around Africa, including the 2006 Channel O Music Video Award in South Africa. The group later disbanded when the brothers relocated to America. Lovy jnr went solo and turned his attention to writing and producing for other artists.
Some of his credits include; 2017 YOUTH Tinie Tempah (producer/programmer); 2016 More Issues Than Vogue K Michelle (composer/producer/programmer) and 2014 The New Classic (Change Your Life) Iggy Azalea (composer) to mention a few.
He received a Grammy nomination in 2014 for his writing and production work on the song CHANGE YOUR LIFE by Iggy Azalea ft T.I off her debut studio album The New Classic.
He officially changed his name from Lovy Longomba jnr to Lovy Elias earlier this year.
