Indeed this year’s Ogun Ajobo festival in Ejigbo, Lagos State, ended on a sad note following the willful murder of a 29-year old man, Tope Oladipo, during the festival.
P.M.EXPRESS report that the deceased was allegedly shot dead by a 47-year old man, Samuel Bamidele, who fired with his locally made pump action gun at the late Oladipo and he died on the spot.
The incident happened at Taiwo Aboyomi Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos.
When the victim, Tope, was rushed to the hospital, the doctors merely certified him death and the corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy report.
Consequently, the Police arrested the suspect, Bamidele. After interrogation and having been found culpable, he was subsequently charged before the Ebute Meta Magistrates Court for murder.
He was also charged for unlawful possession of arms and murder of the late Oladipo, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court of Law.
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Inspector Adada Hyacinth, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, O.A. Olagbende, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of DPP’s report, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
