Police Detective from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, have arrested a 32-year old man, Ediri Igbudu Melvin, for allegedly killing a 35-year old lady, Techla Ekeh Chiwendu, cut her corpse into pieces and dumped inside the bush.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Igboloko Street, Adeba in Lakwe area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to Police sources, after Melvin had murdered the deceased and dumped her decimated corpse inside the bush,  he stole N600,000 which she had before the whole thing got exposed.
The alleged murder was first reported at  the Elemoro Division and Melvin was arrested but later transferred to the Homicide Department of the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation.
During interrogation, Melvin revealed how he murdered her and took the Police to the bush, where he dumped her corpse and the body parts were recovered as exhibits.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrate Court for murder, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However, when he was arraigned the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol  Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
