Police operatives have arrested a 35-year old man, Mfon Ernest, who allegedly lured a 19-year old student of Caleb University from Ikorodu area to Ikeja, raped her and thereafter robbed in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at No. 23 Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos.
He has been arrested and charged for statutory rape and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The suspect was alleged to have lured the victim and took her to an apartment, where he threatened to kill her if she did not cooperate with him. He was said to have forced her to remove her pants and engaged her in sex.
Having satisfied himself, he reportedly forced her to transfer the sum of N45,000 she had in her account to him through Opay account number, 9012613247 with account name of Farouq Odunayo Aderibigbe without her consent and thereafter sent her away.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ikeja Division. The suspect was trailed by operatives, arrested and then detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
