Facts have emerged how a 37-year old man, Jamiu Popoola, displayed his boxing prowess in Lagos on a 35-year old lady, Ajoke Adeshemomo and killed her with punches during a public fight.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Meiran area of Lagos, where they reside.

According to Police sources, the man and the lady had disagreement over an undiscovered matter, which led to exchange of words and later to a public fight.

In the process, the man, Popoola, displayed his boxing skills as he  punched her severally and she slumped. She was then rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

However, she died on the way as doctors merely certified her dead and deposited her corpse at mortuary for autopsy report and the matter was reported to the Police at Meiran Division.

The man was arrested and transferred to the SCID, Panti, Yaba, who subsequently charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for murder.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O. G. Oghre,  did not take his plea and ordered the man to be remanded in Ikoyi Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutors (DPP).

She ordered the prosecutor, Inspector Donny Raphael, to duplicate the case file and send to the DPP for advice while the defendants will remain in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s report.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Donny Raphael, told the Court that the man committed the alleged offence at Meiran, a Lagos suburb, when he punched the deceased, which caused her death.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which carries a death sentence.

The matter may likely be transferred to the High Court over jurisdiction because of the nature of the alleged offence if the DPP finds him culpable for the alleged offence.
