A 43-year old man, Ifeanyi Ndieze, has been arrested and charged before the Court for allegedly defiling a 3-year old girl inside a church in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Salau Street, Surulere area of Lagos, where the church is located.

The suspect, Ndieze, was said to have defiled the little girl as he pulled her pant and inserted his finger into her private part. Having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go.

The matter was exposed after the girl informed her mother what happened and the mother reported to the Police.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable.

He was subsequently charged before the Surulere Magistrates Court for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty.

The Court did not take his plea as the Magistrate, Mrs. M. I. Dan-Oni, said she needed advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.

She ordered that the defendant should be kept to the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the advice, and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward a copy to the DPP for advice.

The matter was adjourned till 2nd December, 2020, for report of DPP’s advice to be available.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Courage Ekhueorohan, told the Court that the defendant, who resides at Karimu Street in Surulere, committed the alleged offence on October 29, 2020, at 8:00m at the church located at 18, Salau Street, Surulere.

Ekhueorohan said that the defendant saw the toddler in a church and inserted his fingers in her private part in the guise of playing with her. The prosecutor submitted that the defendant was arrested after the toddler told her mother what he did.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the matter may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence.
