A 58-year old man, Mufutau Raheem, has landed in trouble in Lagos after he allegedly lured a 17-year old girl, got her confused by fondling her breasts and defiling her in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Bakare Street, Isheri Olofin area of Lagos State.

According to Police sources, the suspect, Raheem, reportedly lured the girl into an apartment, used words of mouth to confuse her before fondling her beasts, which made her become more confused and he then defiled her.

The girl later realised herself and raised alarm that she was raped by the man. The matter was then reported to the Police, who arrested and later transferred him to the Gender Section of the Command.

During interrogation, he reportedly admitted that he slept with her but with her consent and did not rape her as she claimed. But the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.

However, he was ordered remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, by the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, following a motion moved by the Prosecutor, ASP Victor Eruada, that the matter be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, who did not take the plea of Raheem, also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
She adjourned the case until 12th August, 2021, for the report of the DPP to be available while the defendant will remain in custody in order to determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.

Earlier, the prosecutor,  Eruada told the Court that Raheem committed the offence at his residence, which contravened the Provisions of Section 260 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment on conviction.
