How Married Woman Was Jailed For Sleeping With Another Man

It has been confirmed that adultery is actually a criminal offence following the jailing of a 32-year old housewife, Mrs Justice Kayode, to six months imprisonment for adultery in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
P.M.EXPRESS reports this was the submission of the Gwagwalada Magistrates Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, which sentenced Mrs. Kayode accordingly and granted her sex partner, partner, Iroghama Charles, 39, bail in the sum of N200,000 after he pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The incident happened at Chukukun village, Gwagwalada, where both reside.
The Police charged Mrs. Kayode and her sexual partner, Charles, 39, who is a civil servant, with three counts bordering on criminal conspiracy and adultery by man and woman.
They were brought before the Presiding Magistrate, Yusuf Ibrahim, who sentenced her to six months imprisonment with an option of fine of N5,000, after she pleaded guilty to the charges while Charles was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reasonable sureties in like sum. He ordered that the sureties must reside within the Court’s jurisdiction and must have verifiable addresses.
He said that the sureties must provide means of Identification and must undertake an affidavit to forfeit the bail bond if the defendant jumps bail.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Abudullahi Tanko, told the Court that the complainant, Kayode Akande, who lives in Chukukun Gwagwalada, Abuja, reported the matter at the Police Station on 13th July.
Tanko said that while the first defendant was still wife to the complainant, she had sexual intercourse outside her matrimonial home with the second defendant.
He claimed that the act resulted into a pregnancy, which the defendants terminated.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 96, 388 and 387 of the Penal Code.
