How Osun Gov Snubbed Foreign Ambassadors At Agritech Event In Abuja

Posted on February 12, 2025

On occasion the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, could have used to further project himself, the government and Osun State to the world as a destination for Direct Foreign Investment (DFI) was botched by his last minute absence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has used its diplomatic platform to assemble accredited High Commissioners and Ambassadors to Nigeria for the sensitisation program of the international agricultural and agribusiness conference tagged Agritech Nigeria Osun 2025. The event is scheduled to be held in Osogbo in April this year.

The Agritech Nigeria Osun 2025, the agrotechnology exhibition and conference, is being organized by Fesco Agalu Nigeria Limited

P.M. EXPRESS reports that the expectation was high as Governor Adeleke had promised to personally host these high profile diplomats. Top officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were enthusiastic about the sensitisation event as a way of laundering Nigeria image and helping to sell Osun State to the world. Members of the diplomatic community themselves were eager to put Governor Adeleke on their hot seat to engage him constructively on how they can do business with the government in Osun State. The guests who included indigenes of Osun State based in Abuja were also expecting their governor to be on ground to project their state to the world.

Unfortunately, this could not be as the Governor failed to show up, only for the Master of Ceremony to announce to the seated audience, some few minutes after 11am, that Governor Adeleke couldn’t make the very important event due to other pressing State matters.

“What could have been a pressing state matter than for the Governor to be on ground to personally engage these High Commissioners and Ambassadors for them to come to Osun State instead of him sending ordinary Commissioner for Agriculture to that sensitive and important event.

“This is a disappointment to me. This Governor failed to make use of a rare opportunity for him to project himself and sell the state to the world,” said one of the State’s indigenes who was at the event.

A cross section of the invitees who spoke to P.M. EXPRESS wondered how lack of good governance and sentiment have ruined the development of the country.

Effort to reach out to the organisers of the event to ascertain who is responsible for the shoddy arrangement proved abortive.
