Police operatives have arrested a 32-year old drug addict, Samson Sikiru, for allegedly strangling his mother, who is a Prophetess to death in Ogun State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Itanrin area of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, where they reside.
The suspect, Samson, was alleged to have committed the dastardly act in the early hours of Sunday, 16th July, 2023, when the suspect’s younger brother was away at work during his night shift. The incident was reported to the Ijebu Rewa Organisation following a distress call, which in turn reported to the Police.
The suspect, Samson, who was said to have left home for over five years, only returned a month ago. The mother was said to have observed and had made several complaints to neighbours and security operatives that the suspect was using hard drugs.
On the day the incident happened,  Samson was said to have raised alarm in the early hours of Sunday saying that the Prophetess (Samson’s mother) had slumped and died. The neighbours rushed inside only for them to discover that the mother was strangled to death as evidence of marks were all over her neck and leg; her left hand had broken and there was blood stain marks on Samson’s fingernails.
“The neighbours held onto him and he started saying he does not know anything and how it happened. It dawned on them that Samson was under the influence of hard drugs to have strangled his own mother to death,” the report said.
This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, who disclosed that Samson was in Police custody undergoing interrogation while the mother’s corpse has been deposited at the morgue for further investigation and autopsy report.
The PPRO, Odutola, explained that the suspect was currently a neuropsychiatric patient and occasionally the family members used to bind him up to avoid him injuring himself or anyone.
“He (Samson) had remained with his mother whom he visited during the Sallah celebrations, even though he is known for his retard tendency but his condition was being managed to the best of the knowledge of his mother. It is not yet clear if there was any provocation by his mother. But preliminary investigation revealed that earlier same day he was tied up in the house, only for him to loose himself and descended on his mother and strangled her.”
“The body was seen laid on the bed on the arrival of SP Murphy, the DPO, but on closer observation, marks of violence were found around the deceased mother.
Lacerations were discovered around her right leg proving that there was force and violence.”
“Samson Sikiru is still in Police custody, but nothing much has been gotten from him as he has not answered any coherent questions put across to him” Odutola stated.
