The wife of the former President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, lost a whopping sum of N100m worth of property after robbers burgled her home, carted away the items and escaped in Port Harcourt, River State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that four of the robbers were later arrested by the Police and charged before the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt for conspiracy, burglary, stealing and attempted murder.
The defendants were Praise Gelson, Tamunoala Alatoru, Usman Garba, and Christian Mbaeri. They have been remanded in the correctional centre for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if they are tried and found guilty before the Court.
The defendants were arraigned on the charges and stealing of valuables belonging to Mrs. Jonathan on 21st September, 2022.
They pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
Their counsels made applications for the Court to grant them bail because it was a bailable offence.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, after listening to lawyers on the matter, did not grant the bail application of the defendants but ordered them to be remanded in custody and promised to speed up the hearing of the matter in the interest of Justice.
The matter was adjourned the till November 4, 6, 8, and 18 for hearing.
