Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested street urchins, popularly known as area boys, for harassing and extorting money from motorists in some areas of Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the RRS confirmed the arrest of the street urchins in a statement through its official X account and stated:
“On Thursday, 9th October, 2025, RRS operatives carried out sting operations at three notorious spots to arrest street urchins who harass motorists with broken-down vehicles in the metropolis,” the statement read in part.

“Some of the areas covered by the team included Old Toll Gate/Motorways (Ketu), Adeniji Adele (Third Mainland Bridge), and Ile Epo, with the first operation yielding significant results.”

It stated  further that three of the suspects were ex-convicts: Kayode Sulaiman, 30, Basiru Saheed, 33, Ekene Ifeanyi, 20, including two other suspects, Ile-Ifa Sheriff, 27 and Adeleke Sakiru, 23.

“On 11th October, 2025, the team was at Ile Epo (Agbado) around 3:00 a.m., where a passerby reported to the team that he had been robbed by some miscreants in the area, who dispossessed him of two mobile phones,” the RRS added.

“Acting on intelligence, the team apprehended one of the key suspects, Alabi Wasiu, along with the buyer of one of the stolen phones, a Samsung AA2.”
In a follow-up operation, the team arrested another key suspect, Mustapha Alabi (24 yrs), alias Alabi Yellow, who made a significant confession.

RRS Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has vowed to continue the clampdown on street urchins harassing motorists in the Ile Epo axis and other identified hotspots across the state.

According to the statement, the suspects have since been arraigned in court.

Meanwhile, earlier, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) recovered a significant number of electronic gadgets during a routine patrol in the Ikeja area.

The recovery followed the interception of two fleeing suspects who abandoned two large “Ghana Must Go” bags upon sighting the operatives near Allen Roundabout, Ikeja, Lagos.

Last Sunday, at about 5:30 a.m., the operatives inspected the bags and discovered 32 iPhones of different models, alongside 38 other smartphones of various brands such as Samsung, Redmi, Tecno, and Honor.

Also recovered were five laptops, several smartwatches, AirPods, a Samsung Tablet, a Sorapad, and several damaged phones suspected to have been stolen from various parts of Ikeja and its environs.

Speaking on the recovery, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, CSP Jejeloye, stated that preliminary investigations revealed the items were stolen property hurriedly abandoned by the suspects.

He urged members of the public who may have lost similar devices to visit the RRS Headquarters, Alausa, with verifiable proof of ownership for proper identification and reclaim.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Jimoh, commended the operatives for their vigilance and swift response.

Jimoh lauded their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the continuous enhancement of public safety across Lagos State.
