An Assistant Superintendent of Police, attached to Abattoir  Division of the Lagos State Command, ASP Omini Kanu, will not forget in a hurry the day he went to perform an official duty and was flogged mercilessly by the traders inside a market in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged attack took place at Abattoir Market, where cows are slaughtered and sold in Oko-Oba area of Lagos.

The Police did not disclose the nature of the official duty the officer, Kanu, went to the market to perform but narrated that he had a nasty experience when he went there. The traders were said to have rounded him up and asked him what he came to the market to do.

Before he could explain, they brought out cane and flogged him mercilessly before he was sent away from the market and rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Later, one of the suspects, Dankigan Hassan, 25, was trailed and arrested while others are still at large.

Having been found culpable after interrogation, the suspect,  Hassan, was charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conspiracy and assault on the officer, Kanu.

When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinleye Funmilola, informed the Court that the victim is still a serving Police officer, who went to perform an official duty and was assaulted by the defendant and others at large.

The prosecutor stated that since the defendant pleaded not guilty, the Court should give short adjournment for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O.Fajaro, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 20th June, 2022, for mention.
