Police operatives from State Criminal Investigation Department Panti, Yaba, Lagos, have commenced an investigation on the motive behind the alleged kidnapping of three children inside a popular Mosque in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the woman behind the alleged kidnapping, a 29-year old Kemi Mebebejoye, has been arrested and undergoing interrogation over the alleged act.
The incident happened at the popular Ifetedo Central Mosque located at Idi Araba area of Lagos, where the victims were said to have gone for prayers.
The motive behind the kidnapping of the victims, who were within the age range of 8 and 11, was not known before she was caught in the act. The Police alleged that she went inside the Mosque, pretended to be one of the worshippers, then captured and took away the victims.
Some said that she may have done so with others at large for purpose of collecting ransom before the whole plot failed and she was handed over the the Police for further investigation.
After interrogation, the Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for conspiracy and kidnapping.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector O. Kehinde, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Oshoniyi, granted her bail to the tune of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and ordered her to be remanded in Correctional Centre at Ikoyi pending when she will perfect her bail conditions and adjourned the matter.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped from the Police investigation that she may not have done so alone and were working to unmask her accomplices but it has so far been unsuccessful because nobody has come for her bail including members of her family.
