A teenager, Azeez Yusuf, has returned to prison four days after he was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos, as he stole again claiming that he preferred to stay in prison because he was homeless.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Yusuf was sentenced to six months imprisonment without any option of fine before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for stealing after he pleaded guilty before the Court for the alleged offence.
Police operatives from Isheri Oshun Division led by SP Ayodele Oluwole had earlier arrested Yusuf for stealing at Wole Akinseye Street off Arinze Street, Isheri Oshun, Lagos. He was subsequently charged before the Court and remanded in custody.
Some of the items Yusuf stole included cooking stove, LED Television set and power generating set all worth about N1m before he was caught and the items were retrieved as exhibits.
The alleged theft happened days after Yusuf was released from prison on 14th December, 2022. In the evening, on 18th December, 2022, he went to the same location and stole the said items belonging to one Taliat Agoro.
He was arrested again and charged before the Court.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded guilty and did not plead for leniency.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then presented the facts of the matter before the Court and asked the Court to sentence him accordingly because he was a habitual criminal, who already had a criminal record and was recently released from prison which he also confessed before the Court.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, found him guilty as charged and sentenced him to six months imprisonment and he was taken to prison.
While he was being taking to the prison, Yusuf expressed his satisfaction saying that he actually wanted to go back to prison because he was homeless and was sleeping outside before he was arrested again by the Police for the same offence.
