I Resorted To My House Maid Because I Was Sex-starved – Man Tells Court
KINGSLEY EBERE

A contractor, Prince Uzo Nwosu, has appeared before a Customary Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Takushara, Abuja, to explain why he had a sexual relationship with his house maid, an allegation that was at the center of a contentious marital dispute with his wife, Rebecca Erebi Nwosu.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Prince Nwosu told the three-member panel, chaired by Hadiza Attah, that he became involved with the maid because he was allegedly “sex-starved” by his wife. He insisted that the relationship had been consensual and denied any allegation of rape.
Nwosu claimed that Rebecca only agreed to intimacy when she wanted to conceive, and that after the birth of their second child, she continually refused him sex until she eventually left the matrimonial home.
The embattled man, who appeared as the fourth prosecution witness, also alleged that his wife frequently dismissed their house maids at the slightest provocation, claiming that she had sacked 18 maids within four years and often accused them of having affairs with him.
He further alleged that she sometimes left their young children in the care of estate security guards when going out at night.
Responding to questions about his wife’s allegation of rape, Nwosu reportedly maintained that his relationship with the maid, identified as Mercy, had been voluntary.
He added that he had even planned to get married to her because of the care she showed his children, and claimed that as a prince from Ohuhu in Umuahia North, Abia State, his custom permitted men to take multiple wives. He also denied assertions that his son had autism, stating instead that the child had delayed speech, which he said ran in his family.
In his petition, marked FCT/JD/CC/TAK/CV/09/2025, Nwosu asked the court to dissolve the marriage, award custody of their two young children to his parents, and grant Rebecca visitation rights. He argued that the marriage, contracted in May 2021, had broken down irretrievably and that the couple had been separated for over a year. He further accused Rebecca of clubbing, promiscuity, and denying him access to the children.
In her response, Rebecca denied getting married to Prince Nwosu under Igbo customary law, stating that the marriage was conducted under Ijaw native law and custom in Bayelsa on 30th April 2021 and later blessed in church. She described herself as a dutiful wife and accused Nwosu of concealing his “true character,” which she said had contributed to the failure of his previous marriage.
Rebecca alleged that their marriage collapsed after Nwosu raped and sexually assaulted their house maid in July 2024, a development she said had brought shame on the family and led to their separation after relatives intervened.
She also claimed that Nwosu had confessed to her and added that criminal charges did not proceed because the victim lacked financial means and because his family allegedly paid her off.
She further maintained that their children were unsafe with him, accusing him of chain smoking in their presence and alleging that their son once mimicked him by picking up a discarded cigarette butt. She denied clubbing or promiscuity and insisted that she allowed him access to the children, and portrayed herself as a hard working, responsible mother.
Rebecca also accused Nwosu and his family of attempting to control her life and claimed that he forced her to abandon her successful clothing business, leaving her financially dependent. She demanded full custody of the children, child support, health insurance, and the return of the ₦60,000 bride price in accordance with Ijaw custom. She reportedly agreed that the marriage should be dissolved.
The court adjourned the matter for judgment.
