Prominent Ogun State businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, known as IBD Dende, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of veteran Nollywood actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The businessman described his death as a monumental loss to Ilaro and the entire Ogun State.

Ogogo passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer. His remains are set to be laid to rest in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026.

In a heartfelt tribute, IBD Dende stated that Ilaro has lost one of its most illustrious sons.

He described Ogogo as a proud ambassador of his roots who carried himself with uncommon grace and professionalism throughout his illustrious career in theatre, film and television.

“This is a painful void that will be deeply felt not only by his immediate family and the people of Ilaro, but also by the Nigerian artistic community and his countless admirers,” Alhaji Dende remarked, echoing the sentiment of the Ogun State Government which also hailed Ogogo’s legacy of excellence.

Ogogo was one of the most recognisable faces of Yoruba cinema, with a career spanning over four decades and more than 300 film credits to his name, including classics such as Owo Blow, Atitebi, and Aníkúlápó.

The burial arrangements, confirmed by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko, include a lying-in-state ceremony scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion in Ilaro, followed by the interment in accordance with Islamic rites.

Alhaji IBD Dende concluded his tribute with prayers for Almighty Allah to grant the late actor eternal rest and give his family, friends and loved ones the strength to bear this great loss.
