The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the immediate posting of newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to key strategic departments within the Nigeria Police Force, barely hours after their decoration at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The postings, announced in an official circular issued by the Force Intelligence Department, take immediate effect and are part of the police leadership’s efforts to strengthen operational efficiency, intelligence coordination and institutional reforms within the Force.
Under the new deployment, DIG Margaret Agebe Ochalla has been appointed to head the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), one of the most critical investigative arms of the Nigeria Police.
A breakdown of the postings shows that DIG Zachariah Fera Achinyan, fdc, will head the Department of Logistics and Supply, while DIG Zango Ibrahim Baba has been assigned to lead the Department of Research and Planning.
Similarly, DIG Isyaku Mohammed will oversee the Department of Training and Development, while DIG Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, mni, has been posted to head the Department of Finance and Administration.
The circular also indicated that DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc, will head the Force Intelligence Department, while DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, mni, has been assigned to lead the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
In addition, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, mni, has been deployed to head the Department of Operations, a key command responsible for coordinating nationwide police operations.
The development comes shortly after the decoration ceremony where IGP Disu charged the newly promoted DIGs to deepen intelligence-led policing, strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance public trust in the Nigeria Police.
Disu, on Monday, decorated the seven newly promoted DIGs, charging them to remain steadfast in upholding the core values of professionalism, accountability, and service to the Nigerian people.
According to him, “The responsibilities that come with this rank require courage in decision-making, fairness in leadership, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.”
The 23rd Indigenous IGP, who urged the new DIGs to “see the elevation not only as recognition of their past service but as a renewed call to national duty”, advised them to lead with honour, serve with integrity, and continue to work collectively towards building a Nigerian Police Force that is respected, trusted, and capable of meeting the security aspirations of the nation.
He said, “This ceremony represents far more than the adornment of new insignia. It is a solemn recognition of decades of dedicated service, professional excellence, and unwavering commitment to the ideals and responsibilities of policing in our country.
“It is also a moment that marks the assumption of even greater responsibilities in the leadership and strategic management of the Nigeria Police Force.
“Your elevation to this highly strategic rank is a testament to your professionalism, leadership capacity, and consistent record of service to the nation.
“Promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police represents one of the highest levels of professional trust within our institution.
“It is both an honour and a call to duty, one that demands wisdom, integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and service.”
The IGP added that, as members of the top strategic leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, the DIGs are now entrusted with responsibilities that go beyond operational command. They are expected to provide institutional direction, strengthen internal discipline, drive reforms, and ensure that the nation’s policing strategies remain responsive to the evolving security landscape.
According to him, “The security environment in which we operate continues to evolve in complexity. From organised crime and cyber-enabled threats to violent criminal networks and emerging security challenges, the expectations placed on the Nigeria Police Force have never been greater. It is therefore imperative that our leadership remain forward-looking, strategic, and firmly committed to professionalism and operational excellence.”
He charged the senior officers to bring to bear their vast experience in strengthening intelligence-led policing, deepening inter-agency cooperation, enhancing operational coordination across commands, and reinforcing accountability within the ranks.
According to him, “Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect. Let your tenure at this level be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency, and service.
“The rank you wear today places you as custodians of the institutional values of the Nigeria Police Force. Your actions, decisions, and leadership style will continue to shape the culture, direction, and public perception of our organisation.”
