Man, 31, Docked For Battering Lady During Public Brawl

A 31-year old man, David Mmekobong, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for displaying his boxing skills and inflicting injury on a lady, Oluwaseun Jabaru, with fist blows and causing her severe pains all over her body. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 23rd January, 2026 at No. 18, Oyebijo Street, Fadeyi area of Lagos, where they reside.

 

According to the Police, the suspect and the complainant had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter, which led to exchange of words and later to fighting.

During the fight, the suspect displayed his boxing prowess, beat her mercilessly with fist blows and inflicted injury on her body.

She was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and the matter was reported to the Police in the area. The Police arrested the suspect and transferred the matter to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charge read:

“That you, David Mmekobong ‘m’, on the 23/01/2026, at Oyebijo Street, Fadeyi – Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault one Oluwaseun Jabaru ‘f by beating her with fist blows and inflicting injuries all over her body and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor Inspector Lucky Ihiehie asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
