Ikechukwu Enyeobi, 30, Arraigned Over Alleged Indian Hemp Smoking, Threat To Father In Lagos 

A 30-year-old man, Ikechukwu Enyeobi, was arraigned before the Ojo Magistrate Court in Lagos State over allegations of smoking a substance suspected to be Indian hemp in a residential area and threatening his father with violence.

According to the charge sheet marked Charge No. 9/1/67/26, the incident was said to have occurred on Friday, April 25, 2026, at No. 29, Kareem Giwa Street, Abule Osun, within the Ojo Magisterial District of Lagos State.

The Prosecution, led by ASP Esther Adesulu, informed the court that the 30-year old Enyeobi was arrested by operatives of the Onireke Police Division following a report lodged by residents of the compound.

In Count 1, the defendant was accused of conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace. The prosecution alleged that Enyeobi smoked weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in the compound where underaged children are residing, thereby exposing them to moral danger. The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

In Count 2, Enyeobi was further accused of violently threatening the life of his father, Donatus Enyeobi. The prosecution told the court that the threat was made after the father advised him to stop smoking the suspected substance in the compound. The alleged act is said to be contrary to Section 56 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The charge sheet listed Inspector Obajulaye Adefemi as the Investigating Police Officer. The document was signed by Odumade Yetunde.

When the two-count charge was read to him, Enyeobi pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ogun, who sat for Magistrate Olaye, granted the defendant bail with two sureties. The court ruled that the sureties must provide evidence of means of livelihood and evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Due to his inability to meet the bail conditions immediately, the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Center pending when he will perfect his bail. The matter was adjourned for mention.

Legal observers say Lagos State authorities have intensified efforts to curb public disturbances and protect minors in residential areas. Cases involving alleged drug use around children and domestic threats have drawn more attention in Magistrate Courts across the state in recent months.

Residents of Kareem Giwa Street were not in court on Monday. However, community leaders in Abule Osun have repeatedly called for public sensitization on the dangers of substance abuse and the need to resolve family disagreements peacefully.
