Electricity Distribution company, Ikeja Electric, has remained adamant as residents of Orisumbare Community of Shasha, located in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State are set to mark one year of the community being in darkness.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that some parts of the Community were cut off sometime early February, 2020, by the Ikeja Electric officials and since then, they have been in darkness. The Electricity Distribution company’s top management were said to have sworn that the community will remain in darkness.

It was gathered that they had insisted that the residents must pay the sum of N4m if they want them to return their transformer, which they had removed under the false pretence of effecting repairs on it.

The community has reportedly been able to raise about N3.2m and paid yet they were mocked as they were considered not serious about having light restored in the area.

The matter became worse on those who had prepaid meters and were not owing arrears of utility bills, yet they were told that if they want light, they should go and raise the balance and pay or they will remain in darkness.

P.M.EXPRESS findings revealed that the people in charge were those behind the ugly situation the residents found themselves over power supply. It was gathered that the residents were owing due to estimated bills they usually brought to them and they refused to pay much. That had posed a serious challenge to top managers in the area as they were unable to meet targets as demanded from them by Ikeja Electric.

The officials were said to have been dilemma on what to do with the residents until their transformer developed problem and they moved it for repairs. Since then, they have refused to return it insisting that they will remain in darkness until they pay their outstanding bills.
