An Assistant Supretendent of Police, ASP Ademuyiwa Olusegun, had a nasty experience after he led his team to Ikotun/Igando LCDA in Lagos State for an official duty and they were reportedly attacked by the Council workers and chased away in disgrace.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Council Secretariat, Ikotun area of Lagos State.
Three of the workers, Muritala Jamiu, 27, Ganiyu Lanre, 27 and Shittu Lade, 27, have been arrested and charged for the alleged assault over their alleged conduct.
They were charged for conspiracy and assault but the Police did not state the kind of lawful duty, which the officers went to the Council Secretariat to perform that attracted the anger of some of the workers, who allegedly rounded them up despite the fact that they wore uniforms.
The workers reportedly held, pushed and dragging them out of the Secretariat and they were forced to leave in a disgraceful manner but the officers restrained from fighting back despite the fact that some of them held their operational guns.
The Council workers were later arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence having found them culpable for the unlawful conduct against the officers.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 4th June, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail cconditions.
