Imo APC Congress: Uzodimma’s Success, Okorocha’s Headache

It is interesting to read the comments or rather should I say, the ventilation of frustration and bitterness of Senator Rochas Okorocha over the hugely successful and rancor-free Imo State Congress last Saturday.  The ex-Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, was reported to have attempted making a jest of the Congress when he was quoted as having said that Governor Uzodimma merely celebrated his birthday not a Congress on Saturday. He retorted, according to the report, that he (Okorocha) was not aware of any Congress in Imo apparently in a pretext to feign ignorance of the conduct and successful but peaceful Imo State Congress.

Well, it is very easy to understand the prism upon which the Imo West Senator spoke. I understand he was anxiously expecting to hear that the Congress ended in fiasco or that it failed completely after their secret attempt to get it botched failed. Perhaps, he thought Governor Uzodimma is that kind of politician you could pull the rug off his feet or get him knocked  out politically. But unfortunately for him, the Governor is a master of the game. So having seen that the Congress eventually held signalling a likely political hibernation he as the ex-Governor is about to enter into, he had to throw in his last stone in preparation to exit himself from the party sooner than anybody can imagine.

Let me inform the ex-Governor that Sir Macdonald Ebere (PhD) emerged the new Chairman of Imo State APC since he said he was not aware together with other executives including Okorocha’s Ideato Nation kinsman, Hon Iyke Ume, who emerged as the Organizing Secretary. Let me also tell him that he has two options as it stands now: it is either he joins the moving train or he jumps out but to begin to talk down on a process that has been concluded peacefully is, to say the least, most uncharitable and unfortunate. The bus has fully loaded its passengers and now ready to take off. Therefore, the passengers cannot alight from the bus simply because a passenger came late to the Bus Stop.

However, the earlier Senator Okorocha comes to terms with  the fact that there is a new Sheriff in town, the better for him and those following him. Governor Uzodimma is the leader of APC in Imo State and Okorocha’s leader in Imo too. When he, Okorocha, was Governor, he had his way unchallenged. Even Governor Uzodimma as the then Senator did not question the emergence of State Party officials under his command and control neither did he abuse Senator Okorocha. And now that the reverse is the case, he should use his tongue to count his teeth. He should please respect the Governor as his leader in the party in Imo State.

The APC Congress in Imo was like a carnival of sort. Members came out in their numbers. Maybe, I have to inform my Senator that, unlike during his rule between 2011 to 2019 when every party exercise like congresses and party primaries were characterized with gun shots, bickering and infighting and ultimately parallel congresses and primaries resulting in parallel party executives, this time it was not so.

For the first time, the Congress Governor Uzodimma superintended as Governor recorded huge success. There was no fighting and no single canister or gun shot was fired. This is unprecedented. So I will urge Senator Okorocha to write a commendation letter to Governor Uzodimma for achieving this feat. It is not easy instead of castigating the exercise.

Anyway, he is entitled to his opinion. The minority will always have their say while the majority will continue to have their way. In politics, it is allowed.

Truthfully Yours, Nwamkpa Modestus is my name and I approve of this piece.
