Imo: PDP’s Request For Less Attention From Governor Uzodimma And His Government

OGU BUNDU NWADIKE, M.A

An opposition party in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Imo State has requested that the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma and his government should pay less attention to it.

That request was made by a chieftain of the party, who also stated that the incumbent governor emerged under unprecedented circumstances.

Ordinarily, as an expression of compliance to their request, this short essay wouldn’t have been necessary as writing it would amount to paying more attention to the opposition.

But because it’s not all requests that are grantable or granted, it’ll never be possible for the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government to pay less attention to the opposition.

Generally, opposition party/parties are the killer viruses of the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government, hence so much attention need to be very closely paid to the opposition 24/7!

To that extent, it’s a beggar wish to ride, for Imo PDP opposition leaders and members in the present political dispensation in Imo State to expect the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government to pay less attention to them.

Let’s start from the insulting insinuation that the governor is a product of unprecedented circumstance, as was stated by the opposition chieftain.

Of course, he was making reference to the judicial decision by the Supreme Court of Nigeria which declared that Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma was the duly elected governor, following his victory in the 2019 governorship election.

After ridiculing the process that produced the governor of the State, that opposition voice still expects the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government to pay less attention to the opposition.

That’s simply an impossible request by an unfair competitor, who wants the hands of his opponent tied in a boxing or wrestling contest. It’s thus an unacceptable and unenforceable request.

Shortly, after Governor Uzodimma was inaugurated as Imo governor, it was an Imo PDP chieftain that publicly threatened that they will make the State ungovernable should the Supreme Court of Nigeria refuse to review and reverse their decision to install Uzodimma as the duly elected governor.

Should the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government pay less attention to that, even when hell was let loose in the form unprecedented strange insecurity in the State? Of course, not!

Daily, with instrumentality of all sorts of blatant lies, falsehood, propaganda and blackmail, Imo PDP struggles undermine and diminish the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government.

Then, an Imo PDP leader wakes up one day to complain about the attention paid the brutally vicious opposition by the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government. That’s crocodile tears!

Anyhow, let it be taken that the said Imo PDP leader that made that assertion and request was exercising his right to freedom of speech and expression.

But in the simplest terms his demand can’t be met by the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government, which must pay more attention on the opposition on hourly basis.

We feel we’ve made our point on that and would urge Imo PDP and the entire opposition class in Imo State to pay less attention on the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government.

The opposition must allow the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government to perform the functions of delivering good leadership and good governance for which they elected by the greater majority of Ndimo.

All manners of destructive criticisms by the opposition must be stopped to enable the hard-working governor continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Imo State.

Seeing everything said or done by the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government as bad and negative must be stopped by the opposition class.

Disregarding, disrespecting, abusing, insulting and cursing the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government must be stopped by the opposition class.

When the opposition begins to act appropriately by according due recognition, regard and respect to the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government, then it’ll be underscored that the opposition has started paying less attention to the governor and his government.

It’s then and only then that the opposition can expect the ruling party, the incumbent governor and the sitting government to pay less attention to the opposition.

Meanwhile, Governor Uzodimma didn’t become governor under unprecedented circumstances. Was he the first governor to be declared by the Supreme Court of Nigeria as the duly elected governor? Was he the first to supplant an already inaugurated governor? Of course, not!

So, there’s nothing unprecedented about the way and manner the Supreme Court of Nigeria declared Governor Uzodimma the duly elected governor. The opposition must thoroughly do their homework in that respect and be properly guided.

That’s our package in this edition of our short essay series. Soon again, we’ll be back with another crispy package in another exciting edition. Thanks for keeping us company.

By God’s grace, Imo State must be rehabilitated, reconstructed and recovered!!
